The workshop on Curriculum Development in Tourism and Hospitality Education and Capcacity Building for Faculties was held at Dong A University from 5th to 6th October 2015 was attended by Prof. Bruce Boliver – Head of Resort, Recreation and Hospitality Management School of SRU and about 20 faculty members of Economics and Tourism Department of UDA.
There are 4 main issues discussed, namely: Curriculum/Courses Development, Course Syllabi, rubrics, teaching methodologies, Class projects/assignments and Portfolio Assessment.
Mr. Boliver has reviewed and analyzed the existing practices in the design, implementation and evaluation of curriculum of Tourism and Hospitality Management of UDA, then shared SRU’s experience and solutions for many obstacles of implementation.
As a result of the discussion, various issues were raised with a view to optimizing the delivery in tourism and hospitality education and prepare a clearer path for students in their career.
Participants were not only openminded with Mr. Boliver’s experience in curriculum development and implementation but also impressed by his enthusiasm and honesty to help other people. Especially, he has shared his motto in life, that is “you can’t be rich with how much money in your bank account, but how many people that you touch in life” and “you will be richer if you can help one person successful in his life”. Additionally, he has advised that there are 4 things really important to people’s life: (1) getting married, (2) having children, (3) buying a house and (4) doing internship thereby, he wanted to emphasize the importance of internship in determining the job opportunity of students.
In conclusion, although the workshop has lasted in 2 days, UDA’s participants have learned a lot in terms of curriculum development, the meaning of educational path and internship, outcomes assessment and the last but not least, we have been touched in mind by Mr. Bruce Boliver’s sayings and sharings.
Thank Mr. Boliver for coming here and sharing his experience with UDA.
We really appreciate and hope that there will be more useful worshops like this and the cooperation between UDA and SRU will keep going on.
